Longtime Lake Las Vegas Resident Takes First Place at Drive 25 with Hollywood Classic

A piece of Hollywood sat among the contenders for the second-annual Drive 25 car show, part of this year’s Lake Las Vegas Days.
Longtime Lake Las Vegas resident Sol Malka showcased his limited edition 1980 Clénet (that was featured in a handful of Sylvester Stallone movies) and walked away with the grand prize: rounds of golf at Reflection Bay Golf Club; a complimentary stay at the Hilton Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa; and an incredible experience at Dream Racing riding in a Ferrari at top speed at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Sol’s winner was originally designed for Hollywood stars and athletes. Each custom-made model mirrors the retro design of a high-end 1930s automobile, combined with modern technology.
“The Clénets most certainly have a personality of their own,” he says.
Sol, who moved to Lake Las Vegas 10 years ago and now lives in The Peaks, has made a hobby out of scoping out rare collectables to add to his own impressive collection. He currently owns 15 cars, including a 50th anniversary commemorative Corvette—one of just 208 in the world—and a 1950 Willys van that was converted into a surfer van.
“It’s great because they have all the old, classic characteristics we love, but they all feel so new because of the new technology,” he says.
Sol does 20 to 25 car shows all over the country each year. He stores the majority of his cars in a Las Vegas warehouse, which includes lifts to double up the space. Although he is running out of space to store his collection, he said he can’t stop himself from scoping out new additions.
“Space is definitely a limitation, but I still love to look around,” he says. “Once it becomes a passion, you just can’t stop.”
