Lisa Vanderpump Wows West Hollywood with Tom Tom
– By Paul Zahn
Lisa Vanderpump is taking over West Hollywood’s hospitality scene one restaurant at a time. The iconic reality vixen recently opened Tom Tom, her latest venue in conjunction with two of the cast members from her hit Bravo TV show, Vanderpump Rules, Tom Schwartz and Tom Sandoval. Just a pebble’s throw from her other eateries PUMP Lounge and SUR, and Vanderpump has stepped things up a level with the new venue. Between the innovative cocktail list, chic design and innovative culinary offerings–her talents know no limits.
Tom Tom was a work in progress for many months but it was one Vanderpump didn’t tackle solo. “It was a meeting of the minds: It was Ken [Todd], myself and designer Nick Alain,” she gushes, adding, “Nick is a genius.”
Miami-based Nick Alain specializes in industrial design and helped bring Vanderpump’s intricate vision to life. The bar is set against a giant brass clock and a floor to ceiling timepiece. The venue also includes a front and back patio with custom wood built-ins and crystal chandeliers throughout.
Vanderpump also focused heavily on crafting an exemplary food menu and cocktail list. “The cocktail list is incredibly eclectic and unique. We brought in one of the best mixologists in America to work with us” she shares. ”We wanted it to be as different as the place looks:We don’t want you to come in and get the regular vodka soda . I wanted everything to look extraordinary!” adding her affinity for the menu’s spicy Mezcal drink. .”
Chef Penny Davidi collaborated with Vanderpump to craft the perfect list of culinary offerings for Tom Tom. The menu has something for everyone, from crispy shrimp jicama tacos to cauliflower “wings” and a vegan burger. Davidi raves about Vanderpump’s talents in the kitchen and the opportunity to work together again. “Lisa has all these great ideas, so it is fun for me to bring them to life on the plate as an artist,” says Davidi.
Tom Schwartz and Tom Sandoval foresee the new hot spot as more than every other West Hollywood spot. “It is not just a bar or restaurant,” says Schwartz. “It is an experience. I want people to come here, get lost and take a break from reality and check out for a few hours .” Sandoval agrees. “Tom Tom has a unique style and décor. The place is a step above everything!”
